A girl once told me Two Door Cinema Club sounded like The All-American Rejects, but what did she know anyway?
Since releasing their debut album, Tourist History, back in March 2010, Two Door Cinema Club has been making their name the way a truly good band should: playing a bajillion live shows. Take one look at this band’s incredibly short history and it’s like looking at a Murderer’s Row of festival/gig gangbangers. They’ve played Reading, Oxegen, Glastonbury, Coachella, the Isle of Wight and Lollapalooza, and all over the world, everywhere from their homeland of Ireland to The Magical Land of Oz.
After hosting two successful gigs featuring Etienne De Crecy last year, the bastards over at 5 Gum have decided they want you to love them hard again this year. Yesterday they announced they’d be bringing Two Door Cinema Club to South African shores, bringing my Twitter feed to a standstill and turning Facebook more repetitive than usual. It seems 5 Gum also want to see you get a little aggressive: you won’t be able to simply buy tickets for the gigs. Instead, Two Door fans will have to keep their eyes locked on their Facebook page or – for the more evolved among us – you can follow @5GumSA or search for the hashtag #5GumExperience.
These guys are headlining the NME Awards Tour this year and are a Best Live Band nominee at the show as well. You can check out their live show at Coachella here to see why I’ve written this in the voice of a carnival barker.
